High and low temperature performance of polyethylene waste plastic modified low noise asphalt mixtures

Waste plastic in low noise asphalt mixtures can be a viable alternative to with polymer modified bitumen. The performance of semi dense (SDA) waste polyethylene (PE) is investigated. cyclic compression test (CCT) and semi-circular bending (SCB) was used for characterization high temperature performance. CCT results revealed that the PmB mixture had shown significantly higher resistance compared PE mixture. However, modification showed some improvements terms loading when using same base binder without PE. SCB found on average content slightly improved fracture energy lower toughness (PmB). electron microscopy images does not completely melt during mixing process exists as elastic bodies within findings at temperatures, both behave elastically, whereas remains elastic, binder's viscoelasticity becomes dominant. These highlight importance selecting proper such modifications plastic.
